Justice Department Acts to Reopen Flood-Affected Courts in KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo

Pretoria: The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development has announced efforts to collaborate with stakeholders to facilitate the rapid reopening of courts impacted by severe flooding in the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.

According to South African Government News Agency, the regions, particularly Limpopo, have experienced heavy rainfall over the past week, leading to loss of life and significant damage to property and infrastructure. The flooding has caused issues including roof leaks at court buildings, power outages, structural damage, and restricted access for both the public and court staff due to washed-away access bridges.

The department mentioned that the Minister has already initiated discussions with the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure and other relevant parties to address the challenges promptly. They assured the public that updates and information on temporary arrangements would be communicated as they become available.

Most courts remain unaffected by the flooding. However, the department emphasized its dedication to ensuring accessibility to justice services and stated it would continue to engage with stakeholders to restore services swiftly at the affected locations.
