Cape town: President Cyril Ramaphosa has summoned a joint sitting of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces to deliver the State of the Nation Address (SONA) for 2026 on Thursday, 12 February 2026.
According to South African Government News Agency, the President's decision aligns with Section 84(2)(d) of the Constitution and Rule 13(1)(a) of the Joint Rules of Parliament. These provisions allow the President to convene the National Assembly, the National Council of Provinces, or Parliament for an extraordinary sitting to address special business.
The SONA, scheduled to take place at the Cape Town City Hall, will see President Ramaphosa highlighting the administration's achievements, addressing challenges, and outlining interventions for the upcoming financial year. The address is significant as it marks the official opening of the annual Parliamentary programme and sets out the government's key policy priorities for the year ahead.
