A working meeting was held on Monday at the headquarters of the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) to supervise the work of the cells in charge of monitoring the audiovisual, written, electronic and open space, on the start of the local runoff elections campaign on Sunday. The meeting focused on the rules and recommendations for monitoring the campaign, which observers are required to respect, according to a press release from the ISIE. The importance of respecting the principles of objectivity and independence was also stressed. ISIE President Farouk Bouasker said on January 14 January that electoral crimes had been reported on social media during the first-round campaign. "Political actors had spread false information and targeted candidates in order to derail the local elections," he pointed out, adding that more than 20 complaints had been filed with the prosecutor's office.
