Minister to Announce National Opt-Out Registry for Direct Marketing

Pretoria:The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, will hold a media briefing on the new National Opt-Out Registry system, designed to help consumers avoid unwanted direct marketing communications.

According to South African Government News Agency, the Opt-Out Registry system will enable consumers to block unwanted direct marketing messages in advance. Direct marketers will be required to update their marketing databases monthly to ensure compliance with the new system.

The briefing will take place in Pretoria on Wednesday. The Minister will be joined by the National Consumer Commissioner, Hardin Ratshisusu, and the Information Regulator chairperson, Advocate Pansy Tlakula.
