Ministry of Education urges teachers to hand over students’ grades to administration

The Ministry of Education has urged teachers to assume their national, educational and administrative responsibility, and to submit students’ grades to the administration in accordance with the deadlines set out in the circulars issued by the Ministry.

The Ministry reassured Tunisian families and the educational community regarding the current school year, and reiterated its commitment to make this year achieve success.

The decision to hand in the grades aims to ensure a successful end to the school year and guarantee the best interests of teachers and students as well as all employees of public educational institutions, the same source added. In the framework of the meetings held between the union and the government representative to examine the demands of the basic and secondary education federations under the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), the ministry said the proposals of the government side concerned the regularisation of various points proposed, in particular, to put an end to all forms of precarious work according to a new approach. All outstanding claims from 2019 have been met, the ministry noted.

A commitment was given to continue negotiations on the new points raised relating to the basic and secondary education sectors in order to improve teachers’ conditions. The negotiation sessions held in the presence of representatives of the UGTT and executives of the Prime Ministry, and the Ministries of Finance and Education have examined the various claims of the basic and secondary education sectors.

During these sessions, the government side pledged to examine the financial claims and to improve working conditions in order to preserve the security and dignity of employees.

Ways of promoting social benefits for the educational staff in accordance with the nature of the teaching profession will also be discussed.

Negotiations will continue within the framework of commissions between the ministries concerned on the one hand and the unions of basic and secondary education and the executive bureau of the UGTT on the other, according to a fixed timetable, the work of which will start at the end of August 2023 and end at the end of the current year. The results of the negotiations will be applied from the year 2024, the same source noted.
