The progress of the government's work in general and the agenda of the upcoming cabinet meeting were the focus of President Kais Saied's meeting with Prime Minister Ahmed Hachani at Carthage Palace on Wednesday. The Head of State called for speeding up the drafting of a law to amend the Labour Code to put an end to subcontracting in the private sector, which, according to a press release from the Presidency, is "human trafficking and exploitation of poor and desperate people". The President of the Republic gave an example, among many that do not honour the Tunisian people's demands for justice and dignity, of an institution that deals with a subcontracting company. "This company charges a monthly fee of TND 1,410 for each contract, while the net salary received by the cleaner from this company does not exceed TND 570 per month.» In the same context of employment, the Head of State called for an end to fixed-term contracts. «This type of contract does not give contractors their rights, nor any prospects for those whose contract is terminated every 3 months, only to be renewed after a day or two,» he was quoted as saying. He added that "just as entrepreneurs have the right to invest, workers have the right to be employed under a legal system that allows them not only to be paid fairly, but also to feel secure, stable and covered by social security".
