Tunisian citizens are insisting on bringing those who stole their money to justice. If they are willing to return the money, they will be welcome. Otherwise, they will be held responsible,» said, President of the Republic, Kais Saied, during a swearing-in ceremony of the new members of the National Criminal Reconciliation Committee, held, Tuesday, at Carthage Palace. «A historic responsibility will be delegated to this Committee which must tackle each corruption case thoroughly and then submit its outcomes to me,» the Head of State pointed out, criticizing the reconciliation requests made in the past. The President indicated that these requests resulted in «arrangements» followed by modest sums while the parties concerned by these requests were supposed to return tens of billions to the Tunisian people. «We are looking for justice rather than revenge. We are not seeking to send anyone to prison. Those who stole the money of the people must return it. This is going to be their last chance if they still refu se to comply with the criminal reconciliation,» Saied underlined. The new members of the National Criminal Reconciliation Committee were appointed in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 139-2024 dated March 8, 2024, published in the Official Gazette of the Tunisian Republic (JORT) on Tuesday.
