Public urged to take precautions in severe weather

Government has urged residents in various provinces to take precautions and follow instructions from respective Disaster Management Centres to keep safe, during inclement weather conditions.

This as the South African Weather Service has issued severe weather alerts, including severe thunderstorms, damaging and strong winds, and disruptive rains in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, North West and Free State.

‘Government has noted the damages already caused by the inclement weather and the responses of first responders in the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

‘The National Disaster Management Centre is supporting all Provincial and Municipal Disaster Management Centres to assist the affected communities.

‘We all have the responsibility to assist government and disaster managers to keep us safe,’ said a statement issued by the Government Communication and Information System.
