Limpopo: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning regarding disruptive rainfall that poses a threat of flooding in Limpopo.
According to South African Government News Agency, SAWS has reported a medium likelihood of significant impacts in the Lowveld of Limpopo and the eastern parts of the Limpopo Valley. The area is expected to experience persistent overnight rainfall, with an additional 30 to 60mm anticipated throughout Monday.
The weather service has highlighted that the risk of impacts is intensified by recent flood damage and the strain on municipal services. Predicted weather conditions may lead to flooding of roads and settlements, disruptions in traffic flow due to major roads being flooded or closed, and some communities becoming temporarily inaccessible.
Furthermore, there is a significant concern for public safety due to fast-flowing streams and rivers, which could pose a danger to life. Damage to mud-based or makeshift houses and structures is also a possibility, with potential mudslides, rockfalls, and soil erosion in the affected areas.
