Tunis: The Selma Feriani Gallery in La Goulette will host on May 23 a conference on "Mediterranean Horizons, a discussion on artistic issues". A panel of international guest speakers and a presentation of video works are on the agenda of this conference organised in partnership with Institut français de Tunisie (IFT). The speakers include Exhibition Curator and Art Historian Mohamed Ali Berhouma, Expert in history of contemporary art and Director of the Frac Corsica Fabien Danesi, Co-founder of the Bonifacio International Biennial of Contemporary Art Prisca Meslier, Exhibition Curator, guest curator at the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Genève (MAH) and visiting scholar at Brown University (USA) Anissa Touati, and International curator at the Tate Modern in London Valentine Umansky. The featured artists are: Massinissa Selmani, Malek Gnaoui, Younes Ben Slimane and Ismaïl Bahri. "Marked by an obvious cultural diversity, the Mediterranean region, which is located at the crossroads of three continents, appears to be a unique space where different civilizations have met and confronted each other for millennia…This discussion aims to address the issue of North-South exchanges, and the importance of South-South exchanges, which are increasingly significant and, quite frankly, crucial for our 21st century, abandoning the grand narratives traditionally dominated by Western perspectives," reads a statement published by the gallery. "Mediterranean Horizons" seeks to discuss the way in which artists in the Mediterranean can offer alternative approaches that contribute to better mutual understanding between the different cultures of this rich and complex region."
