Tunis: Smuggled goods worth TND 53 million and vehicles used for smuggling purposes worth TND 125 million were seized by customs services in the governorates of Tunis, Jendouba, Sousse, Gafsa, Medenine and Sfax during the first four months of 2024, the Directorate General of Customs said on Monday. 10500 control operations and 750 searches had taken place, until the end of April 2024, uncovering 5474 smuggling cases, according to the same source. The goods seized were mainly gold jewellery (TND 2 million), narcotics (617,000 pills), packets of cigarettes (TND 3 million), ready-to-wear articles (TND 3.7 million), mobile phones and accessories (TND 2 million). There were also food products (TND 4.3 million), bicycles and tyres (TND 1.5 million). More than TND 4.5 million worth of foreign and domestic currency was also seized.
