South African Police Service Mourns the Loss of Constable Keamogetswe Buys

Bloemfontein: The South African Police Service (SAPS) and the local community gathered at the Grasslands Community Hall in Bloemfontein to pay their last respects to Constable Keamogetswe Buys. The solemn occasion was marked by the presence of high-ranking officials, family, and colleagues, mourning the loss of a dedicated officer who served with distinction.

According to South African Police Service, Constable Buys was part of the SAPS for only two years, having joined in 2023 through the Basic Police Learning Development Programme. Her promising career was cut short when she, alongside two colleagues, met with an untimely death while on duty. Constable Buys was strategically stationed at the Cyber Crime Unit in the SAPS Free State Provincial Office, where she utilized her IT education background to contribute to the fight against crime.

The SAPS launched a comprehensive investigation into the disappearance of Constable Buys, Constable Boipelo Senoge, and Constable Cebekhulu Linda. The trio had been deployed to Limpopo as part of Operation Vala Umgodi, targeting illicit mining activities. Their disappearance on April 23, 2025, led to an extensive manhunt across Gauteng, Free State, and Limpopo. Despite initial fears of hijacking and kidnapping, their remains were discovered in the Hennops River, Gauteng, on April 28, following a meticulous intelligence-driven investigation.

Constable Buys’ dedication to her duty was honored by draping her coffin with the national flag, symbolizing her commitment to the SAPS and her country. Her contributions to crime-fighting efforts, particularly through her IT expertise, were acknowledged as a significant asset to the organization.

The SAPS expressed deep condolences to the family, particularly Constable Buys’ young son, who faces the profound loss of his mother. The organization pledged to cherish her contributions and uphold her memory as part of their ongoing mission to create a safe environment for all South Africans.
