Spring 2023, Tunisia’s 10th hottest (INM)

The 2023 spring was ranked tenth among the hottest due to the excessive heat of March, said the National Institute of Meteorology (French: INM). In 2023, the global seasonal mean of spring temperatures was relatively close to the seasonal normal, but this was not the case for the different months of the season, reads a report for spring 2023 (March-April-May) published Tuesday. Indeed the month of March was very hot and ranked the second warmest March since 1950 with an anomaly of +1.7°C, while the average for the month of May was below normal by -0.8°C. April saw a cold start and a very hot end with record temperatures. The average seasonal temperature for the 27 reference stations (18.5°C) was above normal by 0.6°C. The month of March was also the second driest month of March compared to a record wet month of May with daily and monthly record rainfall. As such the overall balance of the season was very close to normal. The total balance of the 27 main reference stations was 2385 mm, with an excess of 10% compared to normal.
