A 39-year-old suspect is expected to make his first appearance in the Beaufort West Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 25 September 2024, in connection with drugs estimated at R500 000 seized during a raid at Beaufort West. On Tuesday, 24 September 2024 at about 07:20, members attached to the Central Karoo K9 Unit, responded to information when they pounced on a premises at 30 Ngezi Street, Beaufort West. A trained police narcotics dog, Angie, reacted positive to a cupboard in one of the bedrooms. This led to a search of the cupboard upon which police found two boxes containing mandrax tablets stashed inside. The members confiscated 10 080 mandrax tablets and arrested the man in connection with the find. The suspect remains in police custody. He is facing a charge of dealing in drugs. Western Cape Provincial Detectives Organised Crime Investigations (Narcotics) is investigating the matter. The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Caped, Lieutenant General (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile, had nothing but prais e for the team responsible for this confiscation and arrest. He said, 'This confiscation is in line with the policing objectives of the province to rid communities of drugs and to make sure that those involved in the illicit drug trade face the full might of the law'.
