Two-time world champion Ahmed Ayoub Hafnaoui admitted on Saturday that he did not expect such results after failing to qualify for the finals of the 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle at the 2024 World Swimming Championships currently taking place in Doha. Speaking to reporters at the end of the 1500m freestyle qualifying heats, Hafnaoui said these World Championships come at a time when he has started his preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He added that all his focus is currently on the Paris Games, where he is aiming to win gold in the 400m and 1500m freestyle and "even break a world record". The Tunisian, who has just been reunited with his former coach Jobrane Touili, did not reveal where he will be training next. "Together with my coach, we'll draw up a training plan for this event and even decide on a training venue," said Hafnaoui, who has been training in the United States since the autumn of 2022.
