Boosting cooperation between Tunisia and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), particularly in terms of technical assistance in the development field, was the focus of a meeting held, Thursday, between Minister of Economy and Planning Féryel Ouerghi and the Regional Director of the North Africa region at the UNECA, Adam Elhiraika. The meeting shed light on the commission expertise and its technical capacities to support the integration of Tunisia into the African economic dynamic, namely the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (ZLECAF), reads a statement of the Economy Ministry on Thursday in a statement. Elhiraika reviewed the various areas prioritized by the commission, including value chains related to the automobile industry, pharmaceuticals, food safety, agri-food industries and fertilizers. These sectors present potential for cooperation between the two parties during the next period, he said. The two officials stressed the need to increase partnership opportunities and foster technical consultations in the fields of sustainable development, fight against climate change, energy transition, energy technologies. communication, human and social development as well as other priority areas in the Tunisian government's action programmes.
