Pretoria: Members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team detained a suspect on Friday, 15 May 2026, in connection with drug possession and dealing within the Hanover Park Precinct. The operation took place at approximately 19:00 as the task team was deployed to combat crime in the area.
According to South African Police Service, the task team received information about drug activities occurring at a specific address in Hanover Park while patrolling the area. Acting on this tip-off, they conducted a search of the premises and uncovered a significant quantity of drugs concealed in a cupboard.
The confiscated items included 262 straws containing tik, 177 mandrax tablets, 44 small sachets containing tik, 11 small sachets containing cocaine, 10 grams of cocaine, and an undisclosed amount of cash suspected to be proceeds from criminal activities.
A 30-year-old male was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs and is currently detained at Philippi SAPS. The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Athlone Magistrates' Court on Monday, 18 May 2026, to face the charges.
