Brits: Water and Sanitation Deputy Minister David Mahlobo and Deputy Minister in the Presidency Kenny Morolong are conducting an oversight visit to the Brits Water Treatment Works in the North West. This visit underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing water provision infrastructure.
According to South African Government News Agency, the Brits Water Treatment Works is a critical infrastructure project under the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS). It aims to bolster water provision for the Madibeng Local Municipality and surrounding regions. The project is funded by the DWS through the Regional Bulk Infrastructure Grant (RBIG), amounting to over R80 million and is implemented by the Magalies Water Board.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to support Water Services Authorities in fulfilling their constitutional responsibility to provide safe and reliable water. Upon completion, the upgraded plant is expected to expand its treatment capacity from 60 to 80 megalitres per day. This increase will improve the treatment of raw water, strengthen pumping and pipeline systems, and enhance the distribution network to bulk reservoirs.
